Pt Reyes New Year - Dec 2018

On New Year’s Eve, we were accompanied by a slew of additional Explorers looking to celebrate with us, including our newest Explorer Eddie (and her parents Turtle-ish and Wisp). As everyone arrived in the afternoon and got themselves situated, we ended up heading to Abbotts Lagoon for our final goodbye to the sun and 2018. The hike was a beautiful walk ending at the ocean, in a place we called the Otter Temple (named for the otters in the area and the beauty of the site). As we all sat and said goodbye to different aspects of the year, Lark created a Labyrinth for us to walk through in the sand. With the last beams of the sun gently descending over the horizon we gathered ourselves and walked back underneath the fireworks in the sky.

Back in the cabin, we started the music as the kitchen crew took over. Tamales were handmade by Byzantium, Griffith, Deprong Mori, and Kinnabari. The puzzle (designed by Tybeck) was slowly coming together,

while Explorers ventured around the property to discover the Tea Tent made by Lark, Kadama Sama by Denorae, the Autonomous Transspice Merchant by Spice Corp, the New Year field guide and the Lighthouse station. The evening seemed to quickly arrive at midnight. With a big hurrah, a drink of champagne and a ginger cake to share. We had arrived to 2019.

The next morning, we woke up to breakfast, and an assembled crew waiting to go on our first hike of the year. Upon departure though we found the gate tied with a ribbon. Luckily we had a giant pair of scissors and together we cut the ribbon and officially welcomed ourselves to the first venture of 2019. Our hike lead us to the top of Mt. Vision, where we enjoyed a beautiful view of Drake’s Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

We came back home, cleaned up and said our goodbyes. The puzzle was completed shortly after the New Year (always a good sign) and over 3 dozen letters were sent. The spirits of Kodama Sama had welcomed us and Spice Corp used the event to launch their Scrupulist’s Almanac. Panopticon received the Storyteller Badge and little Edie received her first red triangle. It was a perfect event and an excellent way to ring in the New Year.
