Night Owl - Feb 2019
For my captain's report, I'll be brief. The events of the night were a wonderful reminder of the spirit San Francisco holds within it. Denorae and I placed ourselves along the path and handed out 100 field guides (along with pencils) so that participants could engage in some Stellar Cartography of the event. We were delighted by the number of new faces and everyone was fully engaged.
Instead of going through the blow by blow details, I'd like this report to focus more on the final benediction:
night owls! thank you for coming together tonight in the beautiful dark. thank you for sharing this air of eucalyptus and mystery.
we now turn this event over to you.
you have the power to declare this city dead or alive. you have the power to light up your days and nights, to discover and create trapdoors and rabbit holes in what seems ordinary.
look around at everyone gathered here. here we are, right now. if you have the impulse to explore, if being chased by monsters, dancing with bugs, or eating lemons gave you an amazing idea you’d like to draw us into, if you want to lead a bunch of us somewhere - come right up, right here, and gather those who want to join you!
maybe we’ll go off and find more of the secret paths and gifts of the park. maybe we’ll gather somewhere warm to eat or drink. maybe we’ll share rides to somewhere fabulous only you know about.
it’s all up to you!
and if it’s not now, maybe you have a baby idea that will take root and grow later. we’ll be here, listening.
you’re alive! we’re alive! let the magic flow. everything… is open.
